WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. President Barack Obama issued a Presidential Memorandum directing the federal government to identify high impact projects that will create jobs.

“Creating jobs is my highest priority as President, and investing in our nation’s infrastructure can help create those jobs and grow our economy, ”  President Obama said.

At President Obama direction the federal government is identifying a significant number of jobs, which have already been funded within the Departments of Agriculture, Transportation, Interior, Commerce Department, and the Housing and Urban Development.

Included are construction and other jobs under the jurisdiction of the federal government, which can be completed within 18 months. Architectural & Engineering design, reviews, and consultations projects are being considered.

Today’s announcement is nothing new. All U.S. Presidents, eventually, use this common-sense step to speed up job creation in the near term, while strengthening the U.S.economy in the long term.

But, President Obama's administrative decision to act using modern technology is new. The federal agencies have failed to deploy the tools of present day technologies; which improve the efficiency of Federal review and permitting processes.

Moreover, investments in a Nation’s infrastructure is the most reliable means of creating the perception that the U.S. commerce is energizing and attracting business investments. But skillful economic panaceas may only become a frustration to those who know nothing about construction, engineering and project management. President Obama has directed agencies to deploy information technology tools that improve the efficiency of Federal permitting and review processes.

To help make our country stronger, and take immediate steps to push federal projects across the finish line, President Obama said, he is asking agencies to identify "infrastructure projects that will put folks back to work."

"This initiative was recommended to President Obama by his Council on Jobs and Competitiveness during their meeting together in June," the White House said.  "Tomorrow, the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness will hold a meeting in Dallas with local business owners to discuss the steps America has taken to strengthen the nation’s infrastructure. The Council on Jobs and Competitiveness is trying to come up with policies and initiatives to further accelerate the growth of the U.S. economy, as the federal government expedites the review of these high impact projects.

U.S. President Barack Obama on the Occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr

"Michelle and I would like to send Eid greetings to Muslim communities in the United States and around the world.  Ramadan has been a time for families and communities to share the happiness of coming together in intense devotion, reflection, and service. Millions all over the world have been inspired to honor their faith by reaching out to those less fortunate. This year, many have observed the month while courageously persevering in their efforts to secure basic necessities and fundamental freedoms.  The United States will continue to stand with them and for the dignity and rights of all people, whether a hungry child in the Horn of Africa or a young person demanding freedom in the Middle East and North Africa."

"As Ramadan comes to an end, we send our best wishes for a blessed holiday to Muslim communities around the world. Eid Mubarak."
