WASHINGTON
WASHINGTON- With a portrait of President Lincoln behind him, President Barack Obama, the first openly recognized black American U.S. President spoke on the credit rating down-grade. The American flag was over his right shoulder and the other flag representing his office flanked his left shoulder.
He walked in, with his usual confident but humble-swagger, wearing a blue suit and a light blue tie.
It was obvious that his reflective mode had been the reason why it took so long for him to openly make comments about the historic down-grade in America’s credit rating. There were moments during the speech when he seemed to be thinking beyond what he had prepared to say. The written words limited the immediacy of the context and content, though he did not stagger in his resolve. What had happened was beyond his control, and he did not dance around that resolve. He had tried to get the U.S. Congress to make a grand deal to sustain the economic life of the U.S. economy, but he could not acquire Congressional consensus to build resources and diminish 4 plus trillion dollars of spending.
The countries credit rating had, for the first time, been lowered by more than one rating agency, and it was nothing he could have done to stop it.
But what is President Obama going to actually do, not talk about?
