WASHINGTON, DC- "We will never forget," is the narrative of Americans who survived the horrific attacks of 9/11. We took the attack on innocent Americans personally and continue to do so because we will never forget.

On 9/11, 15 Engine 54 firefighters were killed, an entire shift. And last year firefighters from Engine 54 were the first to arrive on the scene for the attempted Times Square bombing.

So when U.S. President Barack Obama talked with firefighters during an unscheduled stop at the Engine 54, Ladder 4, Battalion 9 Firehouse in May Americans were watching. Engine 54 is known as the “Pride of Midtown," in New York, N.Y..To those gathered at the "Pride of Midtown" President Obama said "This is a symbolic site of the extraordinary sacrifice that was made on that terrible day almost 10 years ago."

During a lunch President Obama and firefighters toasted the 15 lost firefighters of the "Pride of Midtown" Engine 54, Ladder 4, Battalion 9 Firehouse in New York, NY. The 15 men killed on 9/11 had 28 children between them.

On May 5, 2011, President Barack Obama made another unscheduled stop to talk with police officers at NYPD's First Precinct police station in New York, N.Y.. The officers of the First Precinct cover the World Trade Center and Ground Zero area. NYPD First Precinct police officers were the first to respond on 9/11.

While in New York, New York, President Obama placed a wreath at the foot of the Survivor Tree on Memorial Plaza at the site of the September 11th Memorial and Museum at Ground Zero in New York, N.Y. The Survivor Tree, which was originally planted at the World Trade Center in the 1970s, sustained extensive damage during the attack on 9/11. It was discovered in the piles of smoldering rubble in October of 2001 and nursed back to health.
