WASHINGTON- It was a night of mixed emotions about a historic day which lifted the burden of unspeakable losses of life in America. Spontaneous crowds gathered to pay tribute to the Obama administration and that of preceding administrations, which sought to apprehend Osama Bin Laden.
The extraordinary effort of the United States of America has defeated its twentieth century arch-enemy.
“It is an historic night” one of two young black-women said, proudly waving a large America flag on the corner of Laffette Park across from the White House. I had asked them why they were compelled to come to the park across from the White House. We came in from Virginia. Where did you come from? Washington, DC, I said, I am a fifth-generation Washingtonian.
My initial reaction was one of concern because of the evil intensions of those who may seek revenge. The possibility of blow back and revenge is a real concern. But the need to rid the earth of Bin Laden’s unkind intentions and inflammatory discourse or plan was relevant.
Unlike the youthful enthusiasm of students gathered in the park from near-by George Washington University, Howard University and Georgetown University; there were quiet persons in the park observing the enthusiasm.
The need to protect the citizens of the United States of America continues.
Standing up to evil is very complex. One must always resist it, with all ones soul, heart and efforts. The activities of the special military forces of the United States of America were quite remarkable.
“Osama Bin Laden lived by the sword and he died by the sword”, one man said.
