NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

WASHINGTON- President Barack Obama delivered remarks at the National Day of Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC. During his remarks he reflected on Egypt and his own prayer processes, saying " . . we're also mindful of the violence that we're now seeing in the Middle East, and we pray that the violence in Egypt will end and that the rights and aspirations of the Egyptian people will be realized and that a better day will dawn over Egypt and throughout the world."When reflecting on his own spiritual journey of prayer, President Obama said a call rooted in faith had led him, just a few years out of college to a community organizing experience where he came to know Jesus Christ for himself and embraced Jesus as his lord and savior.
". . a call rooted in faith, is what led me just a few years out of college to sign up as a community organizer for a group of churches on the Southside of Chicago. And it was through that experience working with pastors and laypeople trying to heal the wounds of hurting neighborhoods that I came to know Jesus Christ for myself and embrace Him as my lord and savior," President Obama said.
"Now, that was over 20 years ago. And like all of us, my faith journey has had its twists and turns. It hasn’t always been a straight line. I have thanked God for the joys of parenthood and Michelle’s willingness to put up with me."
"In the wake of failures and disappointments I've questioned what God had in store for me and been reminded that God’s plans for us may not always match our own short-sighted desires. And let me tell you, these past two years, they have deepened my faith," President Obama said.
"The presidency has a funny way of making a person feel the need to pray. Abe Lincoln said, as many of you know, “I have been driven to my knees many times by the overwhelming conviction that I had no place else to go.”

EGYPT- The U.S. State Department is encouraging Americans wishing to leave, to do so at day-break. But some have found it best to stay in order to help the Egyptians. Others have decided to stay put, keeping themselves in a safe location away from the possibility of attacks.
The Washington Post is reporting that their workers have been detained, along with others.
Vice President Biden:
Vice President Joe Biden's Call with Egyptian Vice President Omar Soliman
"The Vice President today spoke by phone with Egyptian Vice President Omar Soliman, reiterating President Obama’s condemnation of the recent violence in Egypt and calling for restraint by all sides. He also restated the President’s support for universal rights, including the right to peaceful assembly, association, and speech. Vice President Biden urged that credible, inclusive negotiations begin immediately in order for Egypt to transition to a democratic government that addresses the aspirations of the Egyptian people. He stressed that the Egyptian government is responsible for ensuring that peaceful demonstrations don’t lead to violence and intimidation and for allowing journalists and human rights advocates to conduct their important work, including immediately releasing those who have been detained."
