Michelle and I offer our deepest condolences to the Russian people, who have suffered greatly at the hands of terrorism. We share your sorrow and a resolve to stand with you in our common fight against those who use terrorism for their political goals.

WASHINGTON, DC- It was a moment of destiny. A point at which history and human life becomes transcendent. Present day lives and the lives of those yet to be born are being weighed in the balance.
Amid alarming facts of people being tortured, killed and oppressed in China, U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcome His Excellency Hu Jintao, President of the People’s Republic of China, for a state visit in the United States of America. If things go as providence planned true democracy in China may become a reality and thousands of unborn children and women may get the chance to live their lives in peace, without terror. Children in China will grow up with siblings. The nations will not have to be concerned about a nuclear disaster.
The visit included a White House Arrival Ceremony, a meeting with outstanding business leaders, a joint White House press conference with U.S. President Obama and President Hu Jintao, and a Department of State luncheon, and a State Dinner at the White House; streamed live on WhiteHouse.gov/live.
The official day at the White House began on the South lawn. Chinese journalist were taking snapshots of everything from President Obama's putting green to Sasha and Malia's playground area.
The podium was set up surrounded by ferns, just off of the circular driveway. Starting at approximately 8:35 a.m., military bands started playing and marching. At about 8:45 a.m., two dozen Chinese officials were escorted out. Five minuets later two dozen U.S. officials were escorted out to stand with the Chinese delegation.
There was a lot of handshakes as the sun came out on a somewhat cloudy morning.

At 9 a.m., U.S. President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama emerged prepared to welcome President Hu Jintao of China, at the South Portico of the White House.
Two minutes later a limo pulls up and President Hu Jintao step out and the U.S. delegation greeted President Hu Jintao.

President Obama, Mrs. Obama and President Hu Jintao greeted the U.S. delegation, including Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, on the South Lawn of the White House.
Then the walk continued around the South lawn of the White House. Army Colonel David Anders escorted U.S. President Barack Obama and President Hu Jintao of China as they review the troops on the South Lawn of the White House.

The walk continued pass the American press, pass a display of armed American Military, along a roped off collection of children from the U.S. and China, and the delegation of China. Both presidents greeted the children and the Chinese delegation.
After the walk, the two presidents walk up on to the podium for both national anthems.
Next the Army's Fife and Drum Corps marched and played while a 21-gun salute from cannons, set up in Washington Monument area, sound.
Now came the moment that everyone had been waiting for the bilateral remarks.

At 9:15 a.m., President Obama steps to podium: "On behalf of Michelle and myself, welcome to the White House. And behalf on the America people, welcome to the United States."
President Obama spoke briefly, pausing for translation, on human rights, the economic rise of China, and the two countries working as future partners on a range of issues.
"Let us seize these opportunities together," President Obama said during a 10-minute speech.
Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mike Mullen’s wife, Deborah Mullen, fainted while attending the welcoming ceremony for President Hu Jintao. "She was escorted indoors by Adm. Mullen and quickly recovered. She is doing just fine," according CAPT John Kirby, special assistant for Public Affairs, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.Next, President Hu Jintao walks to the podium and spoke.
"I have come to the United States to enhance trust," President Hu Jintao said. I want to open a new chapter as partners with U.S. that is "based on mutual respect." He added that the new chapter with the U.S. should be based on mutual benefit or based on "win-win situations," The mutual benefit theme continued throughout the day.

The event ended at 9:40 a.m. with both president retreating into the White House for a meeting in the Oval Office.
When the press pool was escorted into the Oval Office for a quick spray. President Obama and President Hu Jintao could be overheard discussing the weather as they sat in chairs. President Obama told President Jintao that the 35-degree weather in Washington was "typical for this time of year."

WASHINGTON, DC At 12:30 p.m., the press pool was escorted to Executive Office Building where President Obama was meeting with President Hu Jintao and business leaders to discuss America's economic relationship with China.
Once inside the conference room, each president made a statement, with the translation being simultaneous. They were seated together at the end of a super long rectangular table.
President Obama started by saying that he and President Hu Jintao had experienced an "excellent discussions" during last nights dinner and during their bilateral talks during the day."But in order to deepen the relationship, it can't be just be government to government," President Obama said. "There has been no segment that has been more supportive than business segment."
President Obama went on to say, one of the goals of the meeting was to "make sure that we break out of the old stereotype that China is taking U.S. manufacturing jobs. Our relationship is deeper than that."
But President Obama did say that, "It is important to know that even with China's large population, America does more business with Europe than China."
There needs to be a "fair, level playing field" for business to operate, President Obama stated.
Next, President Hu Jintao spoke for a few minutes. He touted what he said was a 150-fold increase in U.S. imports to China in since 1979.
"If we look to the future, our trade cooperation has a bright future," President Hu Jintao speculated.
President Hu Jintao said China was engaged in efforts to boost its domestic spending, especially consumer spending, abroad.
Concerning U.S. businesses President Hu Jintao offered and invitation. China "welcomes U.S. companies to China... All companies registered in China are given equal treatment."
Hu said that he believes President Obama will continue to give equal treatment to Chinese companies.

WASHINGTON, DC Vice President Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Dr. Jill Biden hosted a lunch to honor President Hu Jintao at the State Department's Ben Franklin Room. The United States of America rolled out the red carpet of democracy.The attendees might be characterized as a Third Way luncheon of Kennedy Center honorees. America's jewels of commerce, the arts, mass media owners, music producers, writers, scientists and the like gathered for dinner. The greatness of America was gathered and displayed for the delegation of China to view.

In his brief remarks, Vice President Biden recalled a Newsweek magazine cover from 1979, which called the first ever diplomatic visit by a Chinese delegation to the US that year, "a turning point in the affairs of the modern world."
Vice President Biden called the 2011 bilateral relationship between the US and China "as important as any in the world."
Vice President Biden said that while the countries have differences on issues such as human rights, the countries must work together to solve global challenges.
Vice President Biden called the meetings with President Jintao "straight forward and collegial."So one can only imagine that much of the bilateral meetings was spent on teaching the virtues of democracy.
Raising a glass to toast President Hu Jintao, Vice President Biden said, "I'd like to raise a toast to many more generations of friendship and peace."
During his remarks, President Hu Jintao expressed "sincere appreciation" for President Biden's remarks.
President Hu Jintao toasted to the health of U.S. Vice President Biden, Dr. Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton "and to the friendship of our two peoples."
Lots of star power at the lunch including Yo-Yo Ma, who performed at the lunch, Henry Kissinger, Barbara Streisand, designer Vera Wang, all of whom sat at the head table with Vice President Biden, President Hu, Dr. Biden, and Secretary Clinton. (See the full head table seating chart below.)

State Department Luncheon Environment:
Approximately 260 guests attended the lunch,including business leaders, foreign policy leaders, cultural figures, and media figures, congressional officials and administration officials.
Entertainment was provided by renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma (a crowd favorite for sure) and Joshua Roman, a 27-year-old critically acclaimed cellist, who performed three pieces: Dona Nobis Pacem (Traditional), Summer in the High Grassland (Zhao Jiping) and Allegro Prestissimo from Sonata No. 10 in G Major (Jean-Baptiste Barriere).
The Decor included a mix of circular and rectangular tables dressed with floral, satin cranberry, kelly green and turquoise table clothes. The tables included centerpieces featuring Peones and sweet pea flowers and orchids. The plum blossom, recognized as a Chinese symbol of winter, was highlighted throughout the luncheon decor. Menu cards incorporated the ancient Chinese art of paper cutting; each menu is individually enveloped with an intricately cut paper design.
The lunch menu included roasted butternut squash soup with pear and sunchoke timbale and sage croutons; Fillet of Alaskan cod with a horseradish dijon creme fraiche; Lemon Rice; Sweet potato and shallot hash with candy-striped beats and brussels sprouts; Chocolate cake with red wine-poached plums and Balsamic ice cream.
And last but not least for you fashionistas out there, Dr. Jill Biden was wearing Susana Monaco, an aide says.
