WASHINGTON, DC- Statesman, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Mentor, Friend, Assistant Secretary of State, Public Strategy Consultant, Ambassador, White House Advisor, American Leader are titles that depict great and courageous Statesman Richard Holbrooke. He was memorialized at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC today for his unwavering commitment to serve America and the global humanity throughout the world.Ambassador Holbrooke, it was said, “served humanity up until his final moments” on earth.
Ambassador Holbrooke was fondly remembered by US President Barack Obama; Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton; former US President Bill Clinton; Mike Mullen; Kofi Annan, Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations 1997 to Dec. 2006; Leslie Gelb, of the Council on Foreign Relations; James Johnson, Perseus Investment Bank Vice Chairman & Former Fannie Mae CEO; Renee Fleming, Acclaimed Opera Professional and others.
US President Barack Obama said the story of Richard Holbrooke is that “he made a difference.”
Secretary of State Clinton said “Richard did this work with the help of a phenomenal team that he assembled with great gusto and pride over the past two years. They represent some of the best minds and biggest talents from inside and outside government. And many of them are here today, so let me say to Richard’s team: You meant the world to Richard. And all of us at the State Department are proud of your work.”
Ambassador Holbrooke created an international contact group of more than 40 countries that included increasing numbers of Muslim majority countries. The International contact group, meant a great deal to Ambassador Holbrooke because he envisioned a political solution that built upon international and regional sustainability.
Mr. Annan, who received a 2001 Nobel Peace Prize related to caring for people challenging the global aids issues, said Ambassador Holbrooke acted to combat the dreaded HIV/AID disease during his tenure at the United Nations despite Annan’s advise that the UN body would not act to combat the issue. Yet of Ambassador Holbrooke efforts resulted in UN success against AIDS at a global level.
However, it was also noted that Ambassador Holbrooke was most sustainable by his partnership with his family. Ambassador Holbrooke loved his wife Kati, his sons David and Anthony, Lizzie and Chris, his grandchildren, his children’s families and his friends. It was apparent throughout the memorial that he loved as hard as he worked for America.
“The family they built together cast light on so many people,” Secretary Clinton said.
He believed that America has a unique responsibility in the course of human events. He understood the future of Pakistan and Afghanistan were tied together. He sustained an urgency to still the sounds of war in Viet Nam, Iraq, Korea and the Middle East. In 1995 he was negotiator of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
If he is able to continue his lives work beyond the realm of the living, he will assuredly be a strategic participant
With the audacity of determination, it was said, Ambassador Holbrooke worked for Americans without pacing himself.

He took the stage by himself and informed the audience that his speech was canceled and that for everyone's safety, they should return to their busses.
