"Remembering The Expectations of Our Children"
Posted and Written by Karen Ann Carr
________________________________________________________________________
WASHINGTON, DC- When President Barack Obama mentioned the expectations of our children and what was, likely, on the mind of Christina Taylor Green the morning she was killed; I could not help but remember my own thoughts as that age. The joy, the trust the excitement and the purest of hopes and realism of dreams.
I recall singing myself to sleep and blowing bubbles and playing jacks, and giggling without the ability to stop to catch my breath. The thing is, recalling the feelings of my inner-most visions of life as a little girl brought me to tears. Those few moments of contemplation will likely serve to shift me back to my true purpose for being alive.
I desire to reclaim those timeless feelings as an adult with purpose. Life was never about personal ambitions or the need for wealth and fortune at that time. And yet those timeless experiences have served me well.
What has become of we adults? Why has our dialogue with each other become so unreasonable. Even children have a way of being warm and genuine with their antagonists. How did life become so mundane that we forgot how to live with joy and purpose and vision and appreciation for each other?
This spring, take the time to jump in a rain puddle! Rake a large and tall pile of leaves and gently fall back in them without a care! Or better yet, let us love and treat each other better!
The expectations of our children are depending on our willingness to treat each other better. We can not afford having our children reflect violence and evil back toward others or themselves.
Just a thought.

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA:
"And in Christina -- in Christina we see all of our children. So curious, so trusting, so energetic, so full of magic. So deserving of our love. And so deserving of our good example.
If this tragedy prompts reflection and debate -- as it should -- let’s make sure it’s worthy of those we have lost. Let’s make sure it’s not on the usual plane of politics and point-scoring and pettiness that drifts away in the next news cycle.
The loss of these wonderful people should make every one of us strive to be better. To be better in our private lives, to be better friends and neighbors and coworkers and parents. And if, as has been discussed in recent days, their death helps usher in more civility in our public discourse, let us remember it is not because a simple lack of civility caused this tragedy -- it did not -- but rather because only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to the challenges of our nation in a way that would make them proud.
We should be civil because we want to live up to the example of public servants like John Roll and Gabby Giffords, who knew first and foremost that we are all Americans, and that we can question each other’s ideas without questioning each other’s love of country and that our task, working together, is to constantly widen the circle of our concern so that we bequeath the American Dream to future generations.
They believed -- they believed, and I believe that we can be better. Those who died here, those who saved life here –- they help me believe. We may not be able to stop all evil in the world, but I know that how we treat one another, that’s entirely up to us.
And I believe that for all our imperfections, we are full of decency and goodness, and that the forces that divide us are not as strong as those that unite us.
That’s what I believe, in part because that’s what a child like Christina Taylor Green believed.
Imagine -- imagine for a moment, here was a young girl who was just becoming aware of our democracy; just beginning to understand the obligations of citizenship; just starting to glimpse the fact that some day she, too, might play a part in shaping her nation’s future. She had been elected to her student council. She saw public service as something exciting and hopeful. She was off to meet her congresswoman, someone she was sure was good and important and might be a role model. She saw all this through the eyes of a child, undimmed by the cynicism or vitriol that we adults all too often just take for granted.
I want to live up to her expectations. I want our democracy to be as good as Christina imagined it. I want America to be as good as she imagined it. All of us -– we should do everything we can to make sure this country lives up to our children’s expectations."

"Political Discourse: Appeal to Turn Down the Volume of Discourse "
Posted and Written by Karen Ann Carr
________________________________________________________________________
WASHINGTON, DC–For some political defamation, partisan journalistic bullying or terrorizing, journalistic inciting–to–violence, and throwing around terms that are fraught with pain in Jewish history or fraught with pain in Black American history, has become a way of life and a way of producing very large sums of personal income. Even the U.S. president's daughter was analyzed and depicted harshly, without any regard for her feelings and the pain the portrayal might generate . The standards of American journalism and mass communication produced by Americans need not continue at such a diminished measure.
In order to claim the status of a highly victimized individuasl, the term ‘blood libel’ is being thrown about in the discourse of the day, without clearly understanding of its use in history.
Historically, the term ‘blood libel’ has been a major theme in European persecution of Jews. It was alleged that Jews required human blood for the baking of matzos for Passover; that the blood of Christian children was especially coveted; and that the unexplained deaths of Christian children could be blamed on Jewish persons. But the killing of Christian children or people to practice Judaism is contrary to all teachings of Judaism.
Why are politicians and professional journalists articulating holier-than-thou assessment of their discourse and the dissertations of others, without regard to quantifying their influence on society or people. Adult human beings are responsible for what they do and say, even if the unintended influences on society engender violence. What a person thinks about often influences their actions.
Political defamation, partisan journalistic bullying or terrorizing, journalistic inciting–to–violence, and throwing around terms that are fraught with pain in Jewish history or fraught with pain in Black American history must end a way of life globally. The ability to produce very large sums of personal income or very great amounts of money for media networks is not justifiable if terrorism, defamation and violence is the means to the wealth.
Violence and a possible link to mass communication is a dynamic that has been scrutinized for many decades. With particular focus on outcomes, social scientists continue to study the relationship between human psychology, the actions of people and human discourses in the media. Why are media networks hiding behind the, seeming, inability to definitively quantify connections between what is said and what is done? The desire to sustain viewers and maintain devoted advertisers is perhaps the answer to the question.
President Obama said, "If there are rain puddles in Heaven, Christina is jumping in them today. (Applause.) And here on this Earth -- here on this Earth, we place our hands over our hearts, and we commit ourselves as Americans to forging a country that is forever worthy of her gentle, happy spirit."
Do you remember jumping in rain puddles, being a gentle and happy spirit, and placing your hand over your heart with commitment to be the best American that you could.
President Obama said, " May God bless and keep those we’ve lost in restful and eternal peace. May He love and watch over the survivors. And may He bless the United States of America."

"TOGETHER WE THRIVE: TUCSON and AMERICA"
Posted and Written by Karen Ann Carr
________________________________________________________________________
WASHINGTON, DC- President Barack Obama visited Congresswoman Giffords and her husband in the ICU on the second floor of the medical center. He stayed from 4.07 until 4.16 pm local time on January 12, 2011. Following his visit Congresswoman Giffords opened her eyes and lifted her arm while her parents, close friends and husband Astronaut Mark Kelly encouraged her. All in the room were overwhelmed with joy and tears.
On Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will visit the University of Arizona Tucson to speak at a memorial event, “Together We Thrive: Tucson and America."
"The President will devote a significant portion of his remarks to the memory of the victims. He’ll also reflect on how all of us might best honor their memory in our own lives," Robert Gibbs said.
Prior to the event President Obama and Mrs. Michelle Obama spent about 45 minutes at the Hospital Center. They visited with a total of five patients who were victims of Saturday’s attack, including Rep. Giffords and two of her staffers, Ron Barber and Pam Simon. The two other persons were not identified.
President and Mrs. Obama were led on the tour of the hospital by Dr. Peter Rhee. A White House physician was part of the advance team for the hospital.
The breakdown of the hospital tour is as follows:
The President arrived at the hopital just before 5 p.m.
President and Mrs. Obama met privately with 13 people who are family members of the deceased. With the President and Mrs. Obama were Attorney General Holder, Senators. McCain and Kyl, and Rep. Barrasso.
They may be meeting with other family members after the initial group. "After his first visit with a group of families of the victims of the shooting, President Obama visited three other rooms," Secretary Robert Gibbs said. "In the second room, President Obama saw people who were injured in the attack and had been discharged, plus members of their families, a total of eight people."
In the third room, President Obama "saw staff of Rep Giffords and their families, a group of between 50 and 60 people. In the fourth room, President Obama saw first responders and families of some of those who acted heroically in the incident -- about 20 people." it is being reported.
Additionally, "there was a meeting with about 20 people on the trauma team that received the victims on Saturday, January 8, 2011.
This evenings event, will take place at 6 p.m. at McKale Memorial Center (1721 E Enke Dr., Tucson, Ariz.).
The goal of the event is to support and remember victims of the mass shooting in Tucson, and will hopefully lift the spirits of those who have been personally affected by this tragedy._______________________________________DANIEL HERNANDEZ,

President Barack Obama & First Lady Michelle Obama after his remarks in Tucson at the "Together We Thrive: Tucson and America" memorial event to support and remember victims of the mass shooting on Saturday, January 8, 2011.
Twenty people were shot and numerous others were terrorized by a man with a Glock 9 mm semi-automatic pistol. Friends and associates of the man stated he was intellectually arrogant and mentally angry at US Representative Gabrielle Giffords - Kelly.
It appears that the man intentionally with forethought planned to kill multitudes of people in addition to his primary target, Representative Giffords.
