“CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING”
Written and Posted by Karen Ann Carr

____________________________________________________________________________

WASHINGTON, DC- In the wake of the November elections, bi-partisan agreement has accomplished the passage of the New START Treaty, Unemployment Insurance Benefits, Tax Cuts for the Middle-class and Wealth, U.S. Military Reform and a Food Safety Bill. The last few weeks at the White House have been the most productive lame-duck U.S. Congress of the last two decades.
President Barack Obama is working to not repeat the political history of the last two years. Progress has exceeded expectations in one way, but delayed the restoration of U.S. citizenship for child-immigrants on the other hand. Democracy does produce results when a leader is passionately working to shift a nation toward fundamental / common-sense policies.

The transition toward change articulated by President Obama before he took office are being revealed over-time. The challenge for President Obama will be preserving the culture and how people should live within a righteous context. The United States of America is not a model of an unrighteous nation-state. Its principles are based on biblical character and faith in a living God that no one  needs to be ashamed of.

There is always a tendency of a society to lean towards secularism, but America has the fundamental duty to always lean toward holiness and righteousness as well. Some how, American ideals have sustained a belief that, whatever a society sows it will ultimately reap. Change what people believe and you may change the society. So what Americans believe should be based on the very best behavior that a person can display.

Human beings are more than sophisticated creations. The content of our character counts. We are human beings shape by a creator, and not cosmic incidents of nature. There are right and wrong ways to live life. Therefore as humans we should adhere to lifestyles that subtract from societal ills and death. Humans are being held to the greatest of standards.

Out of President Obama's love and affection for God, the American President has acted. If President Obama continues to operate in that context and at that level, the next couple of years will not be a burden. The test for Americans is to not push him toward beliefs that he has difficulty with, based on his own personal norms.

The U.S. will continue to develop its defense applications despite its agreement to the START Treaty. The nation is being forced to make smart, tough and courageous decisions about spending, despite its willingness to extend unemployment insurance benefits at Christmas-time. And allowing people to openly proclaim their sexuality in the American military will enable people to sustain courageous stances pertaining to biblical relationship standards.

The major issue that all Americans must contemplate is, where is the money going to come from as we move forward.

QUESTION:
First of all, it appears as though you have the votes to ratify START, and I was wondering -- it didn't necessarily appear that way days, if not weeks ago -- weeks if not days ago. What made the difference?

     RESPONSE:

"I think in all honesty I think people have had an opportunity to focus on what’s in the treaty.  I think they’ve had an opportunity to focus on those that are supporting the treaty and listen to Chairman Mullen, Secretary Gates, Jim Baker, George Shultz, Henry Kissinger, and others make I think a very compelling case, along with the President and the Vice President, for why this enhances our security; why it does nothing to impact or inhibit our ability to defend ourselves in any way, as Senator Isakson said in a statement released just a few moments ago, announcing his support for ratification of this treaty.

I think people understand that it is -- our reductions in these are legacies of many Presidents, including former President Ronald Reagan.  And it makes our world safer.  It provides, as we've talked about in here, an inspection regime with the Russians.  It doesn’t inhibit our ability to protect ourselves using missile defense and promotes our security and stability in the world."

U.S. Citizen Travel to North Korea

Taken Question

Office of the Spokesman

Washington, DC

December 21, 2010

QUESTION:
Does the United States put any restrictions on U.S. citizens traveling to North Korea?

ANSWER:

"While the United States government does not restrict travel to North Korea, the Department of State warns U.S. citizens against entering North Korea without first having received a explicit official permission and an entry visa from the Government of North Korea (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea). Travel by U.S. citizens to North Korea is not routine, and U.S. citizens crossing into North Korea without proper documentation have been subject to arrest and long-term detention. The United States does not maintain diplomatic or consular relations with North Korea."

"Good morning,

The holiday season is one of my favorite times of year at the White House.

The White House truly feels like the “People’s House,” as folks of all ages from across the country pass through the halls enjoying the beautiful décor and celebrating the history here at every turn.

More than 100,000 visitors will come to the White House this holiday season, and we wanted to give everyone a chance to share in the magic of the White House during the holidays.

That’s why one of my favorite decorations this year is the Military Appreciation Tree where visitors can leave their holiday messages for our troops and their families, many of whom will spend this holiday season far away from their loved ones. You can send your own season’s greetings to our men and women in uniform and our military families, as well as see all the holiday decorations and watch behind-the-scenes videos, on WhiteHouse.gov.

This year’s White House theme, Simple Gifts, is a celebration of the simple things that bring joy during the holidays, like spending time with family and friends and serving those in need in our communities.  And it’s a reminder to us all, particularly in these trying times, that some of the greatest gifts in our lives are those that don’t cost a thing.

On behalf of Barack, Malia, Sasha, and Bo, I wish you and your family a very happy and healthy holiday season.

Sincerely,

Michelle Obama

First Lady of the United States

P.S. If you are looking for ways to give back to your community this holiday season, visit Serve.gov or check out the Toys for Tots program."
