“Taliban and al Qaeda Story / Afghanistan-Pakistan Update”
Written and Posted by Karen Ann Carr

WASHINGTON, DC- It was a snowy morning in Washington, but protester of the Afghanistan war where filling a section of the Lafayette Park directly in front of the White House.A line of a few people with white mask walked silently one behind the other, as photographers took snapped-shots of them with the names of war victims written on card-boards and hanging from around their necks.
Two large metro buses drove in front of the White House to perhaps receive protesters who refused to follow the orders of the White House security force, which was out in full-force.
“Peace Now!” some protesters chanted. “We will not be moved,” one could hear others shout.
Another context of resolve about the Afghanistan war was on display within the White House. U.S. President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, and General James Cartwright were articulating the importance of being leaders knowing better what was in the best interest of the United States of America and the global community at-large.
“We’re going to have to continue to stand up. We’ll continue to give our brave troops and civilians the strategy and resources they need to succeed. We will never waver from our goal of disrupting, dismantling, and ultimately defeating al Qaeda. We will forge enduring partnerships with people who are committed to progress and to peace. And we will continue to do everything in our power to ensure the security and the safety of the American people;” President Obama said.
WHY MUST U.S. TROOPS REMAIN IN AFGHANISTAN?
- "It was Afghanistan where al Qaeda plotted the 9/11 attacks that murdered 3,000 innocent people."
- "It is the tribal regions along the Afghan-Pakistan border from which terrorists have launched more attacks against our homeland and our allies."
- "If an even wider insurgency were to engulf Afghanistan, that would give al Qaeda even more space to plan these attacks."
WHAT IS THE U.S. STRATEGY OR TATICAL APPROACH OF THE AFGHANISTAN WAR?
The United States of America is acting strategically in three ways. First, the United States of America is focused on sustaining its military efforts to break the Taliban’s momentum and to train Afghan forces so they can take the lead. Second, the United States of America is focused on the development of Afghan civilian effort to promote effective governance and development. Third, the United States of America is focused on succeeding on both sides of the Afghanistan and Pakistan border, by way of regional cooperation, especially with Pakistan. The strategy of the U.S. has to succeed in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
WHAT ARE THE CORE ISSUES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN AFGHANISTAN?
The United States of America intends to promote effective governance and development, among Afghans. Clear more areas from Taliban control. Enable Afghans to reclaim their communities. Create a context wherein Afghans can take responsibility. Continue to focus on training of the Afghanistan population. And establish a means for targeted growth of Afghan security forces, and then meet the established targets.
WHAT IS THE CORE GOAL OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN AFGHANISTAN?
A White House document states, “The core goal of the U.S. strategy in the Afghanistan and Pakistan theater remains to disrupt, dismantle, and eventually defeat al-Qa’ida in the region and to prevent its return to either country.”
By preventing al Qaeda’s capacity to threaten America and its allies in the future.; it is believed that the global context will be better off. Additionally, the United States of America wants to enable the growth of Afghan security forces to resist al Qaeda and the Taliban who are committed to acts of violence.
ON CORE OBJECTIVES OF THE UNITED STATSE OF AMERICA IN AFGHANISTAN
On the core objectives of the United States of America President Obama has ordered into Afghanistan additional military and civilian personnel. They have been working along with Afghans to improve conditions, along with additional forces from U.S.’s coalition team, which has grown to 49 nations. Additionally, the United States of America has pushed the Taliban and its leaders out of their strongholds, by going on the offensive and targeting the Taliban and its leader.
Now, the U.S. review confirms, that for these security gains to be sustained over time, there is an urgent need for political and economic progress in Afghanistan.
PLAN OF MANIFESTATION
The U.S. plan for Afghanistan has followed a very strategic process. In Afghanistan the U.S. strategy is to ascertain civilians, which will promote effective governance and development of Afghanistan.
The U.S military is working to break the Taliban’s momentum, by training and recruiting Afghan security forces. Afghan security forces must take the lead in securing their own country.
Additionally, the U.S. diplomatic strategy being uses in the region is the establishment of ongoing regional cooperation, especially with Pakistan. The regional cooperation strategy has to succeed on both sides of the border to sustain demovracy in the region.
During the next year, the U.S. will dramatically increase its civilian presence, with more diplomats and development experts partnering with Afghans and working alongside U.S. troops, at the risk of their own lives. Going forward, there must be a continued focus on the delivery of basic services to Afghans. And there must be a continued focus on the transparency and accountability of Afghans. SOmething that has been lacking in the region.
U.S support of an Afghan political process includes reconciliation with those Taliban who renounce violence, break ties with al Qaeda, and accept the Afghan constitution. The U.S. will forge a new strategic partnership with Afghanistan next year, so that it is clear that the United States of America is committed to the long-term security and development of the Afghan people.
Finally, the United States of America will continue to focus on its relationship with Pakistan, by welcoming major Pakistani offensive against terrorist networks in the tribal regions along its borders. Continue to help strengthen Pakistanis’ capacity to root out terrorists, by insisting that Pakistani leaders act to eliminate terrorist safe havens within their borders. The U.S. will also support the economic development and political development that is critical to Pakistan’s future.
President Obama said, “Increasingly, the Pakistani government recognizes that terrorist networks in its border regions are a threat to all our countries, especially Pakistan.”
FINDINGS -
PRESIDENT OBAMA’S QUANTIFICATION OF SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS IN PURSUIT OF THE CORE GOAL OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICAAl Qaeda’s senior leadership in the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan is under more pressure that at any point since they fled Afghanistan nine years ago.
Senior al Qaeda leaders have been killed.
It’s harder for al Qaeda leaders to recruit.
It’s harder for al Qaeda leaders to travel.
It’s harder for al Qaeda leaders to train.
It’s harder for al Qaeda leaders to plot attacks.
It’s harder for al Qaeda leaders and launch attacks.
Al Qaeda is hunkered down.
PRESIDENT OBAMA ON THE ABILITY TO PUT IN PLACE RESOURCES THAT U.S. EFFORTS IN AFGHANISTAN DEMAND.
"We’re in a better position to give our forces in Afghanistan the support and equipment they need to achieve their missions."
“The gains we’ve made are still fragile and reversible. But there is no question we are clearing more areas from Taliban control and more Afghans are reclaiming their communities.”
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

"we are making considerable gains toward our military objectives”
“Targets for the growth of Afghan security forces are being met. And because of the contributions of additional trainers from our coalition partners, I’m confident we will continue to meet our goals.
I would add that much of this progress —- the speed with which our troops deployed this year, the increase in recruits -- in recruiting and training of Afghan forces, and the additional troops and trainers from other nations —- much of this is the result of us having sent a clear signal that we will begin the transition of responsibility to Afghans and start reducing American forces next July.
This sense of urgency also helped galvanize the coalition around the goals that we agreed to at the recent NATO summit in Lisbon —- that we are moving toward a new phase in Afghanistan, a transition to full Afghan lead for security that will begin early next year and will conclude in 2014, even as NATO maintains a long-term commitment to training and advising Afghan forces. Now, our review confirms, however, that for these security gains to be sustained over time, there is an urgent need for political and economic progress in Afghanistan.”
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA
