Summit to Presidential to Discuss New START Treaty”

WASHINGTON, DC- In the morning, U.S. President Barack Obama received the Presidential Daily Briefing in the White House Oval Office.

    Later in the morning, President Obama attended the new START Treaty summit hosted by Vice President Joe Biden. Attendees discussed the new START treaty and why it is in the U.S. national security interest that the U.S. Senate approves the new START treaty this year.

    The attendees scheduled to be present include U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; Chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Senator John Kerry; Senator Richard Lugar; former U.S. Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright, James Baker, and Henry Kissinger; former U.S. Secretaries of Defense William Cohen and William Perry; former U.S. National Security Advisor General Brent Scowcroft; Vice Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff General James Cartwright; and Senator Sam Nunn.

    Later, President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will meet with the U.S. Congressional Democratic Leadership in the White House Oval Office.

    Afterward, President Obama  met with senior advisers in the White House Oval Office.

    In the afternoon, President Obama and Vice President Biden will meet with Secretary of the Treasury Geithner in the White House Oval Office.

    In the evening, President Obama will travel to Lisbon, Portugal to attend the NATO and EU summits.

“Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to Hold Call on DREAM Act”

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan held a press conference call on the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act).  The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act will play an important part in the Obama Administration’s efforts to have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020. The vision is that this will make America more competitive in the global economy. 

    Senator Reid has announced he will bring the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act for a vote as a stand-alone bill before the Congress concludes its work this year, 2010.
